5TH ANNUAL LILLSTREET INTERNATIONAL: THE PERFECT PLATE

This juried exhibition is open to all clay artists who are residents of the United States, Canada and Mexico.  All work, both functional and sculptural, will be considered.  Any submitted work must have been made in the past 2 years. The juror will be Sandy Simon.

Sandy Simon was a student under Warren MacKenzie in the late 60's at the University of Minnesota along with several other artists such as Michael Simon, Mark Pharis, Randy Johnston, and Wayne Branum.  She spent the next nine years as a studio potter in Farmington, Georgia and left in 1978 to teach ceramics at the Chicago Art Institute, followed by teaching stints at Purdue University and the Appalachian Center for Crafts where she met her current husband, sculptor, Robert Brady.  In 1982 they moved to California where Sandy continued her studio practice as well as teaching adjunct at many area colleges. She has taught over 130 workshops nationwide and abroad.  

In 1995 Sandy started TRAX Gallery to showcase the work of nationally known potters.  It has since become nationally recognized as the foremost gallery for excellence in functional pots.  She and Robert Brady have two children, Morgan and Will.

Entries must be submitted through Slideroom (please note there is a non-refundable entry fee of $35 per artist).

Successful applicants will be notified by July 1. Final work is due to Lillstreet Gallery no later than August 1, 2012. Lillstreet Gallery encourages the sale of all work submitted for the exhibition and will retain 50% commission on all sales. Lillstreet does not  provide materials for artists and will not reimburse for shipping and installation costs. Any unsold work will be returned to the artist within two weeks of the exhibition closing date.

Call for Entry!

Installations rotate monthly from May - December 2012. Open to all artists who wish to create fiber or textile work. Also open to alternative media. Four 9ft flag poles are available for hanging work. Work is located on top of a 3 story building and can easily be seen from CTA and Metra train tracks.
All Applications must be received by March 31st, 2012!  Notification will be given by April 30th, 2012 and delivery of flags should be two weeks prior to the month alloted for installation.

Please submit the following information:

  • Sketches of each flag
  • Materials you plan on using (images of materials optional)
  • Size of each flag
  • Title for the flag series
  • Preferred month to display
  • Artist statement
  • Resume or CV 
  • Examples of most recent work  (jpegs or website preferred)

We will be awarding two prizes for the best flag installations:
$500 1ST PLACE, $150 runner-up

Exhibitions

Lillstreet Art Center has a rotating gallery exhibition space that features ceramics, sculpture, painting, textiles, prints and mixed media works. We exhibit local and international artists in rotating exhibitions throughout the year. The gallery director and gallery staff choose exhibition themes and artists and occastionally work with outside curators. Exhibition proposals may be directed via the postal service to Lillstreet's Gallery Director. We DO NOT accept phone call regarding exhibition opportunities.


Lillstreet Sales Gallery

We are currently not accepting any new ceramic artists in our Sales Gallery. We will be taking applications again in September 2012. Please check back then for more information. Work in other mediums (such as jewelry and textiles) are considered on an ongoing basis; applications can be sent to the Gallery Director.
