Class Description

Discover how metal clays can add texture and dimension to your work that isn’t possible with fabrication or casting alone. Learn how to create surfaces and objects with metal clay— which become solid silver or bronze— and the techniques for incorporating them into your designs. We’ll cover basic handling, forming, firing and integration techniques, and metal-specific methods for adding components and textured surfaces to fine silver, sterling silver and copper including gold embellishment of fine silver. Prerequisite: First-Time or Beginning Jewelry. Material fee: approximately $55. Additional materials may be purchased from instructor.

Student Information

Studio Features: Rolling mill, acetylene torches, flexible shafts, buffing machines, belt sander, drill press, bench shear, centrifugal casting equipment, an enameling kiln, raising and forming tool, wide selection of hand tools.

Please note: No open-toed shoes may be worn in the studio!

Materials On-site! Basic, required materials (brass, copper, glass, enamel) are included in class fee. A wide selection of additional materials and supplies is available for purchase from the instructor, including solder, findings, glass and silver.

Generous open studio time! Open studio is an opportunity for students to come in and work outside of class time. Scheduled days and times are posted after the first week of classes.
