Chicago Metal Arts Guild (CMAG)

Friday, February 19 2010 to Sunday, March 14 2010

The CHICAGO METAL ARTS GROUP (CMAG) was established as a not-for-profit community of artists/metalsmiths to provide a cohesive organization for education, networking, and support.  The goal is to promote the appreciation of metalwork as an art form to the general public.  Since its birth, the Guild has tried to provide a vehicle for professional advancement, social interaction and nurturing of developing talent.

In 2006,  CMAG hosted the annual meeting of the Society of North American Goldsmiths, drawing pre-eminent metal artists from a world-wide community to Chicago.  This was the culmination of the hard work and dedication of members devoted to the Guild's goals.  Over the years, CMAG has hosted workshops with such notables as Charles Lewton-Brain, Arline Fisch,Thomas Mann,  Cynthia Eid, Thomas Herman, Tom Muir, Suzan Rezac, Kiff Slemmons,  Barbara Heinrich,  Andrew Cooperman, and Linda Darty to name a few.

We have also tapped a rich vein of local talent.  Our membership includes Noel Yovovich, multi-prize-winning artist included in several Lark “500” Books and a contributing editor to Art Jewelry Magazine.  Noel has been a finalist for the prestigious Saul Bell  Award in the Silver division.  Other current members are Kathy Frey, author of the book “Elegant Wire Jewelry;” Sue Rosengard, artist and owner of  UNDER THE WIRE GALERY in Pilsen; Larry Sanders,  well-known jewelry photographer.

On February 19, 2010 CMAG will open a Members' Exhibition at LILLSTREET ART CENTER, representing the work of the Guild membership.  The public is invited to come and see who we are and what we do.  Much of the work will also be for sale.
